Things I learned while watching Glee

If you want to attract a guy or keep a boyfriend, you have to put out.

They had an entire episode on this, featuring the celibacy club portrayed as a joke. It's not an untrue statement, it's just a little odd that they would make the theme of an episode be to drive that point home to the prime-time family audience.

I think you are taking this show way too seriously. Everyone is pretty broadly drawn and unrealistic, but that's what makes it funny.

I don't think the show is particularly anti-gay, either, as the gay kid is in the main group of people you're supposed to cheer for. And this week he had a very nice storyline with his dad which played out differently than I expected (in one of the show's few serious moments).

I would watch the show for the jokes and the performance numbers, not looking for high-class drama or some sort of preaching about family values.

I'm not saying the show isn't funny, or that I don't have "Single Ladies" stuck in my head, I'm just saying that it's not really living up to its potential ( ... )

You might be right about the show not living up to its potential--I feel like I liked the pilot the best of all episodes so far. The character development does seem all over the place (I'm quitting Glee, I love Glee, I'm quitting Glee!), but I think this schizophrenia is supposed to be part of the show's style. I don't know; we'll see how it goes. But I'm not expecting Buffy-like character development ( ... )
