In 2007 the federal budget deficit was $161.5 billion. In 2008 it was 454.8 billion, which includes the 300 billion dollar bailout package. Without the bailout, the 2008 deficit would have been around $155 billion ( Read more... )

How much was GWB spending in Iraq that wasn't included in the budget? How much of the Iraq/Afghan spending has Obama actually included within the framework of his budget? Just curious.

Funding for certain things like the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, disaster relief, etc are not necessarily included the annual budget. When additional monies are needed, spending for these items are approved separately by Congress. They are however kept track of by the CBO and included in the debt/deficit numbers ( ... )
