Intervention 2011, or, All Things Must Pass (Except, Apparently, Fake Trees)

Sep 18, 2011 22:09

I am sitting in the well-supplied business center of the Hilton in Rockville, Maryland. Outside the door is a high and remarkable atrium with glass elevators at either corner, and in the atrium well is a clean, modern-looking bar with an open seating area, surprisingly hushed and free of echo for the vast space above it. It also contains trees, ( Read more... )

"and was turned into a werewolf on stage by my scene partner, a scene to which I submitted because that is the name of the game in Improv -- the scene is your master. My partner will likely never know what thoughts come into my mind from his offhand decision."

Yikes.

"We are not polyvinyl trees, frozen forever on the cusp of Autumn."

Are you bigger than a breadbox?

"I am particularly haunted by a pink-haired gossamer-winged fae-girl, clad in fishnets, spike heels, and a halter-top which was studded in the same sort of pure white lights which now only adorn the pretend half-dead trees outside."

HA HA! You are dead on with that description. I know exactly which girl you're talking about -- she stopped my band and I in our tracks as soon as we saw the glowing wings!!

I was introduced to your work / Shaenon's work at Intervention, so picked up vol 1 of Skin Horse (which you both graciously signed), plus a piece of orignal art. Enjoyed your panels, very much. My guitarist and I had a lovely chat with you in the Green Room about art and commerce. Thanks for coming to Intervention -- I look forward to reading your work (I have a LOT of catching up to do!)

Yeah, she was something else.

And hey, yes, thanks for the chat (and for your interest in the comic!) It was great meeting so many neat people!

This was a lovely piece of writing, the way you tied it together and the longing and changes coming.  Do you know Margaret Atwood's poem "There Is Only One Of Everything"?

And since I didn't think to tell you yesterday: I follow Skin Horse for the awesome story arcs and what happens with/between the characters.  The artwork is fun, on top of that.
