If you don't know how to do something in a software program: How much time do you spend trying to figure it out before you call some one else and ask them to help you or do it for you?

Depends on how quickly I need to accomplish the given thing.

It depends on my perception of how much time I have available. Finding how to do it myself is a better way for me to learn than having someone show me, but getting frustrated looking for it also helps me to retain the information when someone shows me how. For this reason I like to spend some time trying to do it on my own unless I am quite pressed for time.

If making progress today is more important than learning to make myself more productive for tomorrow, then I will ask after only 15-20 seconds.

Ditto,
I always learn it better, (even if it is the wrong way) when I do it for myself.

I actually just ask for help as soon as I'm out of new ideas to try. Frustrated about something?

Kinda. There is an older-ish woman (around 60 or so) in the College that never attempts to do anything on her own in Office. In fact she calls me up even before she has tried to do something. So far, I have been luck and have known what to do each time.

ok, maybe not lucky....

On a deadline? Right away.

If I have time to play, it can be days before I ask for help. Then usually only if it comes up in conversation to remind me.
