She just says these things like "write it!" and suddenly I'm compelled to do what she says. ;o; Originally posted at my own journal and now posted here because of kotobayori's monthly theme. This is... crack in the sense of "oh god, this wasn't supposed to happen!" and "I was just messing around!". ;o;

You'll probably have to know things about FF8 to get this one.

Also: I'm writing more, whether you guys want it or not. D:

“What do you mean they are all gone!?”

Nino snapped out of his deep concentration when he heard the boy’s wail. He ignored the noise, going back to rearranging his Triple Triad cards.

“But- but they can’t be!” The voice was getting louder. Nino lost his count on how many Tonberry cards he had.

“Sorry, kid. All the hot dogs are sold out. Try again tomorrow,” the cook said and turned his back on the boy.

“Are you kidding me!?”

Nino put his cards away with a sigh. He had known that coming to the cafeteria to play had been a bad idea. There were too many people around and too many people meant too much noise. How annoying.

“Kid, I’ll tell you only once. The. Hot. Dogs. Are. Sold. Out. Now take you gunblade and go. You are blocking the other customers.”

Gunblade? Nino perked up instantly. He took another look at the boy. Blonde, spiky hair, small frame and slightly hunched shoulders... Nothing special. He didn’t look powerful enough to be able to wield a gunblade properly. The boy sighed and picked up the case from the ground, turning away from the counter with an unhappy expression. His face was round and soft-looking and if Nino hadn’t been completely sure that the case he was carrying was for a gunblade, he wouldn’t have believed it.

“Hey, you! Stop right there!” a new voice called out.

Nino rolled his eyes. Of course Jun would find his way there. If there was a flimsy reason to intimidate his fellow students, you could bet that Jun would find it. “Just leave him alone,” Nino drawled, getting up. “He was just upset that the hot dogs were all gone. You get the same way when someone messes up your hair.”

“I do not!” Jun protested.

“Or when you run out of your fruity shampoo.”

“I. Do. NOT.”

“Or when your uniform pants get wrinkly.”

”NINOMIYA. I DO NOT!” Jun looked so ridiculous while furious that Nino had to stifle his laughter. There were certain perks when the head of the so-called Disciplinary Committee was also your roommate. It didn’t include not getting hit with a hand full of rings if he laughed at Jun, though.

“Ninomiya. This guy was causing disturbance. Shouting in the cafeteria is against the rules.”

“Uh-huh,” Nino said, nodding. “So you’ll need to punish yourself too, right? Did you know that your voice gets really high when you’re upset?”

Jun paused, glaring at Nino. While the glare would have been very scary normally, Nino had been roommates with Jun for three years. He had gotten used to it.

“...Someday I will smother you in your sleep,” Jun growled, but not denying that he had been shouting.

“Now, now, Junjun. Don’t be mean,” Nino said pleasantly and wrapped his arm around the gunblade boy’s shoulders. “Besides, this guy is obviously new. I bet he doesn’t know the rules yet. You can’t punish someone for something they didn’t know was against the rules. Think about the first impression he gets.”

“Hey, hey! What’s happening here?”

“No one called you, Aiba,” Jun said, but didn’t protest when Aiba appeared behind him, wrapping his arms around Jun’s waist and planting his chin on his shoulder.

“Are you being mean again?”

“Aiba. Making other people follow the rules isn’t ‘being mean’. If everyone did what they wanted this place would be a mess.”

“Right, right,” Aiba nodded. Then he noticed Nino and the boy that Nino was still holding on to. “Nino, who’s this? Your friend?” Aiba asked, smiling. Then he saw the case the boy was clutching and his eyes lit up. “Ooh, is that... a gunblade?”

“I-it is,” the boy nodded, looking a little overwhelmed. Nino patted his shoulder encouragingly. “I’m Ohno. Ohno Satoshi. I just transferred here.”

“Right, I’ll make the introductions then,” Nino said briskly, cutting Aiba off before he could say anything. He sure as hell wasn't going to trust Aiba to introduce them properly. “The scary guy who looks really cute when he’s annoyed is Matsumoto Jun. He’s the head of the Disciplinary Committee and he likes to make all our lives difficult.”

“Hey! What kind of introduction is that?” Jun demanded to know, but Nino ignored him.

“He’s my roommate and his weapon of choice is a whip. That totally tells you something about him, doesn’t it? Next, the idiot cuddling Junjun is Aiba Masaki. Stay away from him, he’s a pervert.”

“Hey! I’m not!”

“He has way too many GFs for a SeeD candidate. He gets along with them a little too well. He’s also pretty good with a gun. Now, I’m--”

“What’s all the commotion?” someone said loudly, pushing his way through the crowd of students that had gathered around them. “Oh, Nino! I’ve been looking for you.”

“That,” Nino sighed, “is Sakurai Sho. Don’t make any promises to him or you’ll end up sacrificing all your free time to some lame festival he wants to organize.” Nino paused, turning to look at Sho. “Also, why are you talking to me like we’re friends?”

“B-but we are friends, right?” Sho said, his sunny smile quickly replaced with a pout. “Right, Nino? Right?”

“When did I ever give you permission to call me Nino?”

“Ah! Now Nino’s being mean!” Aiba exclaimed, letting go of Jun and wrapping himself all over Sho instead. “Don’t worry about Nino, he really likes you,” Aiba comforted him. Nino noted, satisfied, that Jun’s glare now moved from him to Sho.

“Whatever,” Nino shrugged. Then he turned back to Ohno, who still looked scared. “I’m Ninomiya Kazunari. You can call me Nino. If you have anything to ask, you can come to me. Don’t trust the others.”

“Well, uh, nice to meet you,” Ohno mumbled. He paused, considering something. “Er, can you tell me why there are no hot dogs left?”
