Idiopathic Gynecomastia

Oct 07, 2008 19:11

I haz it.

And the Doctor basically said "you have it, we don't know what is causing it, but you should be okay." The Beloved wants me to have a head-to-toe physical. I'm not too keen on being violated again.

Gyneocomastia "is overdevelopment of the male breast. The glandular tissue of the breast swells, usually in response to an excess of the female hormone estrogen or a lack of testosterone, a male hormone. It occurs in babies, teen boys, and older men."

In men my age it can be caused by lung cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid issues, liver issues and other equally nasty issues. The Beloved wants me to have a physical to see if I have any of those issues.

Having it gives me the right to misspell it!

I thought that I'd point it out merely in the case that anyone else tried their Google-fu.

Like me. :-)

I also did not take the cheap, humorous explanation way out. I'll only make a reference to Drew Carey and a line he has used in the past.

And I'll re-add my other lines, which mysteriously disappeared...

Seriously. I know that you don't want to get probed, but as you said, some of the non-idiopathic reasons you listed are pretty darned serious. Maybe go see an endocrinologist. (Wow, that word is in Google Tool Bar's spell checker!

I don't know what "Gynecomastia" is but I do know Idiopathic means the doctors don't have a clue as to what's causing it. Hope everything will be okay with you.

I'm fine until we find out what is causing it (if we find out at all).
