For work, for leisure, for going back home on the last train, Nino loved travelling with Ohno. The public places of trains and planes and buses heightened his senses, made him delicately aware of Ohno's every move. Squeezed together in cramped train car or away from each other in the opposite ends of a tour bus, it didn't matter. Nino could feel Ohno in every nerve-ending.

In public, undetected and hidden behind convenient bags, backs, seats and folds of clothing, Nino liked to align himself with Ohno. It was like an assurance of something real in his life.

Ohno's jeans were artfully ripped and convenient. Threads of the coarse material were sticking out and with only a small move of his hand, Nino was able to tug at one of them, near Ohno's knee. He began twirling it around his finger. Ohno, staring out of the window, didn't react in any way. But the contact was there. Nino tugged at the strand, pulling it loose. Ohno moved, a glorious move that started from his shoulders and travelled through his body, from torso to hips to legs, and pressed their thighs together. Still nonchalant, looking out of the window and everything perfectly out of sight.

Nino didn't move his hand, only his fingers, slipping one into a hole in Ohno's jeans, tracing the few millimetres of warm skin on the side of Ohno's bony knee.

He sometimes felt slightly bitter of these pinprick emotions, unacknowledged by everyone there but him. In public but never announced. Not like the girl with her boyfriend's arm around her waist and patches of blush on her face or the old woman whispering to her old husband. He felt almost twice removed from anything resembling the normal world. The only reason he ever seemed ordinary to these people was because he went unrecognised. And even if he had never joined this life, even if Ohno hadn't either, even if they had somehow found each other on their own, still they couldn't have been leaning on each other like the girl and her boyfriend.

The rocking of the car pushed Ohno against him and then away again, but he had felt Ohno's fingers ghosting over his knuckles before moving away.

Of course he didn't need to be acknowledged by strangers, he didn't need to be announced. People didn't matter, only the quiet journeys with Ohno did.

Nino loved travelling with Ohno.

Aiba always had the best ideas. They had stuffed themselves into his car, a situation made even more impossible by the bags and towels and knickknacks of five guys and the amount of food and beer Sho had insisted on all piled in there with them. Nino's guitar case didn't help either. Aiba thanked the gods that they had had to tie his and Jun's surfboards on the roof or they probably wouldn't have survived the trip.

Nino, of course, moaned about it most of the way.

"It's too hot, Aiba!" or "I can't even see the sea yet and I think I'm already seasick!" or "Augh! Ohno! Move your freakishly bony elbow away from my pancreas, you ass!"

The bitching stopped only after Ohno hung his arm around Nino's shoulder and allowed him to snuggle close.

"Are we there yet?" Sho asked.

Aiba exchanged looks with Jun, who was comfortably sitting in the front with him, reading a magazine. "How come this situation reminds me of the times I was little and my family drove somewhere together?" he asked.

"This was your idea," Jun responded, not taking his eyes off his magazine. "I'm not going to tell them to shut up, though. I'm not their mother, thank gods."

They practically exploded out of the car when they reached their destination. The weather was gorgeous; the sun was shining from a cloudless sky and the wind was warm. By the time they had lugged all their stuff to the beach, they were drenched in sweat. Aiba tugged his shirt over his head and sighed happily. The waves were too low for surfing, but he didn't mind that much.

Nino ran straight into the sea, closely followed by Sho. Aiba could hear Nino's "HOLY SHIT IT'S COLD!" all the way from where he was calmly sitting, rubbing sunscreen on his arms and legs.

Jun adjusted his sunglasses and scanned the beach. Besides them, most of the people on the beach were older couples, comfortably sitting under their big umbrellas and ignoring the five loud newcomers. "You picked the spot well," Jun grinned at Aiba.

"Well, of course. It's only too bad that I'd still rather look at girls than grannies. But you can't have it all," he sighed.

Ohno, already in his swimming trunks, had wandered to the edge of the water. Sho had caught up with Nino and they were now engaged in some sort of game of trying to tackle each other into the water. Then Nino spotted him and stopped to wave. Sho took advantage and managed to push Nino into the water.

Ohno made his way to them while Nino surfaced, sputtering and glaring.

"Yes! All ready!" Aiba exclaimed, finally satisfied with the amount of sunscreen he had on. "I think I'll go join those three. Sho looks like he is going to need some help very soon. Two against one just isn't fair." He got to his feet and ran to them, shouting: "Don't worry, Sho-chan, I'll save you!"

Jun sat down, feeling the sun warm on his skin and the sand warmer under his feet. He enjoyed this little pause in the noise, the shouts of his friends muffled by the distance and the wind. Soon they would come back, dripping wet, spraying drops of cold water everywhere (Most definitely on him. And very much on purpose) and force him to join them. But for now, he was content to just sit there and feel lucky.
