Title: Unconscious
Fandom: Arashi
Pairing: gen, some ohmiya
Rating: G
Word count: 568
Notes: This was an experiment in writing. I made a conscious decision to avoid stating exactly what Nino was thinking or feeling. I tried to get the point across some other way instead. I'm not sure if I succeeded. Er, I think I did?

Nino sits quietly. The room is just another backstage room, the bare walls white and cold, only a clock (that reminds him of high school) ticking on the wall.

Nino knows he's in Osaka, but only from the layout of the room. Black couches in the centre of the room, simple, cheap tables lining the back wall, mirrors with lights behind his back. Floor grey plastic.

Aiba is sprawled on the couch across from him, long limbs hanging over the edge, face hidden by a magazine. Nino knows Aiba is asleep from the fluid lines of his body, all movement stilled for few moments of rest. Aiba is relaxed here, but somehow Nino has never been able to like this room.

When Nino closes his eyes he can almost hear Sho's laughter from the general direction of the buffet table (turn right at the door, then left, then right). Nino's right shoulder feels cold and too free. He stretches his arm to the side just to feel the empty space.

Aiba groans from under his magazine and then starts to snore.

Nino pulls his earphones out of his ears and closes the lid of his DS with a snap. The cold is spreading to his right shoulder blade and to the back of his neck. And then down his hip and along the edges of his outer thigh.

The hollow feeling of suddenly realizing you're alone in the room doesn't come often, but it comes now. The awareness of all the empty space comes quickly after he lets himself wander away from the game in his hands.

Aiba moves in his sleep and this time the leather of the couch groans for him.

First turn right, then left and then right again. Nino could find them with his eyes closed. He's lost track of how many times he's been here. He wonders why the place still feels so alien.

Sho's laughter is close now.

Sho always sleeps the same way in unfamiliar places, stiff and curled around himself, like he's unsure of himself. He seems smaller asleep, his strong lines softening and the corners of his mouth losing something important.

Sho is awake now, surrounded by a bubble of familiar faces and his laughter is way too loud. Jun stands on the other side of the buffet table, serving food to two expectant plates. First to Ohno (some chicken) then to Sho (chicken again) then again to Ohno (fried vegetables. They look delicious, Ohno says). Jun says something and Sho laughs again, making the stagehand next to him jump.

"I could hear you all the way back in the dressing room," Nino says. He bumps his right shoulder against Ohno and the warmth spreads from the touch. "Why didn't you tell me you were going to eat?" he asks and Ohno pushes himself closer, hip to hip and the warmth spreads faster.

"We did," Jun snorts and hands Nino a plate.

"You said 'uh-huh' and went back to your game," Ohno says, reaching out with his free hand, taking Nino's hand and curling his fingers into Nino's palm.

Jun puts some chicken and vegetables on Nino's plate.

"Hey, why did Captain get more chicken than I did?" Nino demands. "Forget it. I'm not like these two idiots, I can get my own food."

Jun ignores him, gives him some rice next and Nino doesn't pull his plate away.
