hrm.

spent all day working on a new messenger bag styled purse that combines pale yellow pleather and black denim-like fabric. it looks good so far (i ripped more seams than i actually sewed because i don't have the right foot for pleather), but i need more supplies, so i'm holding out until tomorrow.

i bought the pleather on a whim from walmart ( Read more... )

oh, hey, unrelated kind of to your post- but do you do quilting?

i'm not sure which spacing i like better, the more i look at them the more i like the uneven.

yeah! I like the uneven better for sure. It looks kind of whimsical that way. A lot of people have commented that I should start out on the top shingles and as it falls, get more uneven. Seems like a good idea.

Sadly, I do not quilt. Many women in my family tree do, though, and I'd definstely like to learn. Do you quilt?

no, i've been wanting to start- i barely sew but i've been thinking i can probably hop on a machine and bang out a quilt. i'm sure it'll end a lumpy disaster :)

i've never even tried one. i think matching up the pieces and getting the seam allowance right is the hardest part.

I like the even better too actually, but I'm funny with symmetry. I think you're right though and if they were all different colors and things I would like the uneven too.

I'm very weird abou symmetry, too, so I'm no help there.

I know a few years back I found a bunch of websites that would send you free samples of fabric, like 6x6 inch ones, that might be good for your bag projects. Some of them would send up to 10 samples. It was in the craftster forum, I'll try to find links in my email.
