All that glory and I missed it

I just did a re-read of one of my all-time favorite series, the Queen's Thief set, by Megan Whalen Turner. Brief plug for the books: the first is The Thief, which won the Newbery Honor, the second is The Queen of Attolia which breaks your heart in a dozen wonderful ways, and third is The King of Attolia, which is the best so far, in my opinion. Ooh. I had never read this series until I saw your last icon post for it. Thank you for mentioning it. It's brilliant! Queen of Attolia is my favourite. I'm going to convince my eleven year old to read it next.

These are all stunning so I am not quite sure where to begin but I will definitely snag 1, 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 21, 24, 26, 28, 33, possibly all of them. Will credit when I use. :)

Will you report back on what your 11-year-old thinks of the books? Because a few of my fellow MWT readers and I have been having a discussion about this, and wondering how much the books actually do appeal/make sense to the 10-15 year olds they're supposedly aimed at...

I've tried to channel my inner tween and imagine what my reaction to these books would have been at that age, and I keep thinking I would have been bored and confused by the politics and angry at Certain Hand-Related Events, and probably not even finished the series. But I would be delighted to find out that I am wrong about this and that tweens and young teens love the series as much as we stuffy grown-up types do. :)

I actually remember picking up The Thief in middle school and being totally put off by the cover, which was this one and the blurb on the back. I think that I might have read it had it been the new paperback edition. I don't know if I would have enjoyed it or not, though I suppose if I had already read Dickens, Austen, and Shakespeare, I might have.

I was that age when I first read this series. I quite liked it, actually. But I think if I reread it now I'd see more of the layers.

Um, these are all pretty much awesome. I don't even know which ones I'm snagging but I'll probably take nearly all of them.

They make me a bit sad, though, 'cause some of them I don't recognize. T_T I must reread the series!!!

Thanks! I'm an obsessive quote gatherer, so I went through with my notebook and wrote down everything I thought was the least bit funny. Some of my favorites were too long to stick on a user pic, alas.

29, 43, and 50 -- at this rate I'll soon have more MWT icons than anything else! Beautiful work, great quotes, thanks for doing this!

(And it makes me want to send you CoK just so you can make more text icons, but then the MWT community would rise up and kill me for spoiling them.)

You're welcome!

You could always send it to me anyway and just wait until whenever they actually release it for the quotes. :) (Kidding.)
