Well. Like you think you know about HK. Since you are just a foreigner in HK, you will never find places for true bargains unless you have someone who speaks Cantonese. Sellers think you are just a piece of white trash anyway.
About sucking off your money from exchange, yeah, there is no free service when you travel (you must be one of those people who never tip!)

food is expensive.
so it's either u eat something good and shop lesser or shop more and eat simple.
Try to plan your trip in such a way that there's a balance between your expenditure.
