Reading this post is what set off the train of thoughts that got me writing my own post about Christianity last night. As for "religious groups who target college students" during a "vulnerable time being away from home," I think the same pattern is demonstrated with almost all of their converts--not just college students. They will target anyone in a vulnerable position--whether they are poor, aging, ill, or in some other way in need of answers. I don't think we can really blame organized religion entirely, though. Some people are just ready to give up on searching for answers on their own. They're tired of questioning. Organized religion is the easiest route they can take.
The military really does have some cult-like qualities. After a few months of "training," the military manages to make enlistees into faithful lemmings who will follow their commander-in-chief into the Apocalypse.
