I think the strangest story I heard about BttF is that Crispin Glover DIDN'T like the ending (to part 1)! Why? Because they ended up rich! o_O
Now, I'm not saying that "love should be enough" isn't a good reason, but it never occurred to me that they were "rich" in that sense... like, before they were scraping by on "gas station attendant" kind of wages... but were in love. In the "new" present, George has more confidence and perhaps went on to get a decent day job earning a solid living wage, with enough spare time to write his *first novel* on the side.
Note: Authors don't really earn "riches" as such, and buying your kid a new car isn't something reserved exclusively for the wealthy (though they're more likely to throw sense away). Point being, until I heard that story, I never thought of them as rich.
(Keep in mind, my barometer's calibrated by Richie Rich and Uncle Scrooge...)
Nervous because with all three movies "in the past" I feel a little bit older than I want to feel. :x
As to the "rich" part I pretty much agree with you. They weren't rich, they were financially solvent in the middle class. Back when we knew what the middle class was. Can't find it often these days. :/
