Sometimes, when he closed his eyes, he could hear guitars playing.
A soft melody...quiet, untarnished in its purpose, playing around those with sullen eyes and bowed heads, the warm sun and soft wind almost oxymoronic for the occasion. Tears sometimes stained the melody, and a wail or two could be heard above the rhythmic strumming, timed with drums and a single violin.
...Wow, how long had that been?
...
Far too long, perhaps. He could barely remember it.
Blurs, sounds, smells-guitars. If only he could remember all of it...remember the faces, remember the names...think of the sight of that strange figure spinning over the grave as something other than a strange sort of top, even though he knew it was a person.
Who was it?
What were those eyes...those eyes that were resting on him?
He wished he could remember.
Guitars, strumming, playing, feet tapping...
And a single name.
...
“Edward”.
.....
“Rest in Peace, Edward Elric.”
............
Though for the life of him, Alfons Heiderich could not figure out why the sound of it was so ironic, or why it brought tears to his eyes every time.
...
Once again, he heard guitars.
