Summary: 5-year-old Changmin makes a new friend.

"Have a good day, sweetie!" Mrs. Shim kissed her 5-year-old son on the forehead.

"Umma!" Changmin complained, rubbing his forehead and jumping out of the car. He ran inside the school, backpack bouncing with every step. He was on his way to Miss Kwon's kindergarten class, when he saw another little boy sitting by the stairs. His face was buried in his arms, and every few seconds his shoulders would move.

Changmin went over and tapped him on the head. "Excuse me!"

The boy looked up at him with bloodshot eyes. His black hair perfectly framed his face, and even Changmin knew he was a little too pretty for a boy.

"Are you lost?" Changmin asked. The boy just sniffled and blinked his big brown eyes at him. "Come on!" Changmin grabbed his hand and dragged him to Miss Kwon's class.

"Miss Kwon, Miss Kwon!" Changmin yelled. Miss Kwon looked and immediately rushed over to them.

"Oh, there you are! Now Jaejoong. One of our rules is that we don't leave without a grown-up. Understand?" The boy stuck his thumb in his mouth and nodded. "Good. Thank you for bringing him back, Changmin. Changmin?" But he had already left to sit next to Junsu, who was hitting a sleeping Yoochun on the head with a plastic hammer.

Miss Kwon brought Jaejoong up to the front of the room. "Boys and girls, this is our new student, Kim Jaejoong. Please be nice to him and make him feel welcome."

The class let out a loud chorus of "Hi Jaejoong!" This caused Yoochun to wake up and kick Yunho in the leg, which caused Yunho to throw a marker at him, which bounced off his head and hit Junsu in the eye, which caused Junsu to chase Yunho with the plastic hammer, which caused an impromptu round of everyone's favorite game, Run-Away-From-Junsu-Because-He's-Deadly-With-That-Stupid-Hammer. As everyone was running and laughing, Jaejoong snuck off to a corner and started building a tower out of blocks.

During lunch, Changmin plopped down next to Yoochun with his bright red Spiderman lunchbox. They were in the middle of a heated debate about who would win in a fight between The Hulk and The Thing, when Changmin glanced over at Jaejoong. He was sitting at the other end of the table, staring at his hands as if he'd never seen them before. Changmin grabbed the back of Jaejoong's chair and pushed it over next to his. When Jaejoong gave him a confused look, Changmin simply handed him half of his sandwich, no questions asked. Jaejoong took it, and the argument continued without missing a beat. Jaejoong watched with pure curiosity and interest.

Halfway through recess, Junsu had somehow managed to convince the rest of the boys playing soccer that his team had scored 86 million points. Changmin abandoned the game, deciding he didn't want to play anymore if Junsu was going to be a 'stinky, booger-eating cheater'. Yunho followed him and suggested they go play on the jungle gym. They were on their way there when they saw two bigger boys kicking sand under the slide. Upon further investigation (and taking about 3 steps to the left), Changmin and Yunho saw Jaejoong hiding under the slide.

"Yah!" Changmin yelled at the boys. They turned to look at him. "Leave him alone!"

"Make us!" one of the boys yelled back. Yunho picked up a rock and threw it at him. It hit him right in the middle of the forehead. "Get him!" The boys chased after a screaming Yunho.

Changmin sat down next to Jaejoong. "Are you okay?"

Jaejoong shook his head as tears ran down his face. Changmin always felt uncomfortable when people cried, so he did the only thing he could think of; he hugged him.

"Nap time, everybody!" Miss Kwon announced that afternoon. Everyone ran to their cubbies to get their blankets and pillows. Changmin dropped his pillow in his favorite spot by the window. As soon as he'd made himself comfortable, Jaejoong came over. He opened his mouth, and a tiny voice came out.

"Can I sleep next to you?" he asked. Changmin nodded. Jaejoong carefully placed his pillow on the carpet and lied down next to Changmin.

*15 years later*

"Mrs. Shim! Yoochun's foot is on my side!" Junsu whined from the Shim family minivan.

"My foot is going to be up your ass if you don't shut up." Yoochun grumbled. Junsu gasped. His neon green plastic hammer smacked against Yoochun's arm with a high-pitched squeak. Yoochun snatched the hammer from Junsu and hit him square in the face.

"Ow!" Junsu squealed, rubbing his nose.

"Knock it off, or I will turn this van around!" Mrs. Shim warned them. Yunho shook his head in embarrassment.

"Yes, ma'am." The two replied. Jaejoong giggled behind them.

"Curse Miss Kwon for letting him keep that thing..." Changmin grumbled, eyeing the hammer.

"Hey, I liked Miss Kwon!" Jaejoong laughed. Changmin was about to comment on the fact that she was terrible at hiding the fact that Jaejoong was her favorite, when Jaejoong let out a huge yawn. He curled up next to Changmin with a cheesy grin on his face. "Can I sleep next to you?"

Changmin smiled and kissed the top of his head. "Always."

one-shot, jaemin
