Shinsekai Yori
The first show of the new season that I watched. The music is what caught my attention first. It's very ethereal, and quite fitting for the setting. The first episode felt rather like the start of a movie than a series. The first minute set the show up nicely, I'm going to love it as it gets darker.
A few episodes in, and I still like it. Enough that I actually went and spoiled myself on the Japanese novel wiki. XD; But wow, gonna be in for a turn!
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
It's pretty normal when compared with the manga. I don't really have much to say about it other than, yay for it getting animated. XD
Sukitte Ii na yo
Some of the backgrounds are really detailed. And then they go into those particular scenes where it's flat color when it's supposed to be humorous... The clouds. They came up so much. Visually, that was nice, but every time the clouds came up, I started going "cotton candy" in my mind. XD It'd be nice if this is a different type of shoujo, but chances are, it's not.
A few episodes in, and it seems like it's going 1 episode per chapter? (I went and read vol.1-9 very recently.. XD)
BTOOOM!
Can't help but think of the style reminding me of Death Note for some reason. Not too much, but just a hint of it. But whoa, death game with bombs. No gory limbs like Blood-C in the first ep, but seeing sinking body parts... I wasn't quite ready to see that. Hongo Kanata's first anime role. Wow, his voice is so different! I only watched him in the J-drama "Himitsu no Hanazono" when he was a little kid, so I have no idea how his voice developed. =P Pretty good voice acting, though.
K
RAINBOWS. Ah, now I see why someone was going "Angela!" Because she sang the OP. So much shiny, maybe a little overboard... Looks like they took live footage and made it into animation. It's like the Durarara!! of Shibuya. LOL Right now, it hasn't left much of an impression on me, though. Shiro and Kurou look like Shion and Nezumi, I have to agree with others on that. LOL
A few episodes in, and I still don't find much allure from it. Sadly, I think I'm going to drop it. I'll come back to it later if others tell me it gets good.
Zetsuen no Tempest
Hamlet right off the bat? High expectations there. Love the connection on the phone at the end of the episode. Love the violin and orchestral background music they're using. I hadn't heard much about this series despite there being manga out already, but for one that I had no idea about before, it definitely is interesting.
Bakuman. 3
PCP! PCP! I wonder if Reversi will also get included in this arc, or if that will remain for another arc?
CODE: BREAKER
A little thrown off by the roundness of the eyes and faces, but otherwise, it's not bad. I think I'm not used to hearing Okamoto trying to be so cold or fake. It didn't quite grasp my interest, but I went to wiki it as well and read some later plot summaries (manga version), and it sounds like it could get interesting.
A few episodes in, and I think this is also one where I'm going to drop it.
Magi
So far so good! I got a good chill watching the OP. Alibaba, Morgiana, and Jamil all sound good! I'm still not quite sold on Aladdin's voice, though. I keep imagining Madoka or someone, because the voice is so feminine and child-like. It doesn't sound like Aladdin is 10 years old, rather it sounds like he's around 8. Maybe just a tiny more touch of masculinity/boyishness would have sold it for me. Oh well, I'll have to get used to it.
Ixion Saga DT
Loaded with big seiyuu. But it almost looks like it's target audience should be younger kids. Almost. An okama with a chest, kicking a bad guy in the southern region with a horned boot... RPG battle BGM during the battle scene? It feels so spoofy that I can't quite take it seriously.
A few episodes in, and an explanation about the sung vs. written lyrics, I see that it's not aimed at kids. How wrong I was. OTL And the pun on DT. I thought I might find it funny, but I'm thinking it's not for me. A little sad for me since I haven't watched anything with Eguchi in it since GOSICK. Alas, I'm also dropping this one.
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
This might get a bit fanservice-y, but I do like the soft pastel colors. And! The cats, omg, so cute the way they all moved in sync to his hammering the sign in the first episode. The main character Kanda, his voice actor Matsuoka Yoshitsugu sounds like a mix of Shimono Hiro, Kaji Yuki, and Eguchi Takuya. XD Hold on... /wiki'd. KIRITO'S VOICE ACTOR (from Sword Art Online)?! I couldn't tell... This character Kanda is so high tensioned, lol.
Psycho-Pass
Nice technology there... but that bit there in the latter part was a bit too gross in the first episode... My guess is that part of the show will be about whether this line of work will make or break the new girl. And how much the main Enforcer has a part in it? For a first ep, it didn't really draw me in that much. =/ Second ep was a little better, in that it got me thinking a little bit more about the technology of the room decor and the clothes, but it also made me think "how sad" because it's digital only (at least it appears that way? I'm not sure if the texture is physically there as well...).
Robotics;Notes
A noitaminA show, so I have some high expectation for it. First two eps have a lot of introduction so I'm hoping that it builds up soon. A robot show, so... I think it depends on how it's portrayed that will determine how much I get into it or not. XD;
-----
So in total, I previewed 13 new shows, but decided to drop 3 (K, CODE: BREAKER, and Ixion Saga DT). This leaves me with 10 new shows for the fall season, in addition to 2 continuing shows (Sword Art Online and Hunter X Hunter).
If I had to pick my favorites for the season (new and continuing), top three would be:
-Shinsekai Yori
-Zetsuen no Tempest
-Sword Art Online
(... anyone see a pattern or similarities here? XD;;)
Total shows for the season: 12
