2019 TV Season

The 2019 fall TV season doesn’t have too many interesting shows this year. Several shows I loved ended last season like Gotham and Legion. The Gifted was cancelled which I’m annoyed about because I really liked it. So I guess they’ll be less for me to watch this season. Here’s what I’m mainly interested in:

Batwoman. Premieres 10/6 on CW. Sundays at 8pm (EST.) The newest addition to the DC comics line-up, Batwoman focuses on Bruce Wayne’s cousin Kathy Kane who takes up his mantle when he disappears from the city. While I love anything to do with the Batman comics, I’m a little wary about this one. I’m afraid they won’t be able to use any of the well-known Rogues from the comics.

Supposedly the first villain on the show will be a woman named Alice who has an Alice-in-Wonderland theme to her crimes. She sounds like a Mad Hatter version of Harley Quinn. So I feel like they’re just going to make up villains for her to fight. I’d like to at least see some of the lesser-known Gotham villains like Calendar Man, Magpie, Ratcatcher, Cavalier, or even Condiment King. It just isn’t Gotham without costumed crazies running around. But I do hope we’ll see some signs or references to the more famous Rogues as well.

Emergence. Premieres 9/24 on ABC. Tuesdays at 10pm (EST.) This is about a young girl with powers who’s found at the site of a plane crash where everyone else perished. A cop takes her in but there are people after her and the cop has to protect her from people who are trying to kidnap her. I don’t know if the girl is going to turn out to be an alien or a government experiment or what but it looks promising.

Evil. Premieres 9/26 on CBS. Thursdays at 10pm (EST.) This show is about people investigating strange events that may or may not be paranormal. It looks interesting so I’ll give it a try.

Prodigal Son. Premieres 9/23 on Fox. Mondays at 9pm (EST.) Tom Payne, who played Paul “Jesus” Rovia on the Walking Dead, plays the son of a notorious serial killer who grows up to be an expert on serial killers. He uses his knowledge to help the police investigate crimes. Michael Sheen plays his imprisoned father. I’m interested in this more for the actors than the premise. It might be too dark but I’m going to try and watch a couple of episodes before deciding whether I’ll keep watching it.

So that’s it. Four new shows, two of which I’m hesitant about. That’s the weakest fall season in years. But I’m also looking forward to the return of:

Black Lightning, 10/21.
Legends of Tomorrow. 1/14/20.
The Flash, 10/8.
Arrow, 10/15.
Survivor, 9/25.
Young Sheldon, 9/26.
God Friended Me, 9/29.
The Walking Dead, 10/6.
Manifest, 2020.
Agents of SHIELD, spring of 2020, the last season!
Amazing Race, 2020.
What We Do in the Shadows, 2020. (Love this show!)

Also the summer shows I like, some of which are still airing like Fear the Walking Dead, The Rook, the InBetween, and the Outpost. I really like the Orville as well but apparently for the third season, they’re moving to Hulu exclusively. This is a really stupid move, in my opinion, but I’ve been thinking about getting Hulu for other shows so I’m probably going to add it now that there’s yet another show I want to watch on it.
