2021 Update

Normally I would have posted a list of upcoming movies by the end of January. With the shutdown, the movie industry is largely at a standstill so there’s no point in doing that. There are still tentative dates like “Black Widow,” coming out this week but even those few movie release dates are subject to change.

I posted a new chapter to “In the Twilight Kingdom,” back in January. It’s been over two years since I posted the previous one so I was glad to finally finish it and upload it. I always feel bad that it takes me so long to write anything. I know what it’s like to really like a story and to wait impatiently for the next chapter.

Unfortunately, illness and fatigue dulled my energy to the point where writing was often left by the wayside. 2019 was a year of so many doctor visits for me. And then 2020 was just a dumpster fire for everyone although I was working the whole time.

The problem isn’t just lack of energy. It’s all the myriad things that interest me. I could spend my entire time online reading fanfics or playing games or watching movies/TV shows and still not catch up on everything that interests me. I once tried to count all the fandoms on ff.net that appeal to me. I gave up at almost two hundred. I’ve seen posts from people who are heavily invested in one or two fandoms and can’t understand those of us who follow a lot more but there’s so many great works out there, how can I confine myself to just one?

Of course, a lot of those fandoms, I’m only mildly interested in or I’m only interested in one character or a specific situation. Also, part of the reason the number was so high was because ff.net stupidly decided to break up author categories and have separate categories for individual books in many cases. So instead of Stephen King as a category, they have each of his books as an entry.

The main fandoms I try to check on a daily, or at least regular basis are: Batman, X-Men, Underworld, Dragonriders of Pern, Transformers, Walking Dead, and stories based on the works of Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, and Gail Carriger.

Still, finding a well-written story always reminds me why I love fanfiction so much. It’s why I have too many ideas competing for attention in my brain and most of them will probably never get written. Besides working on the next chapters for both of my ongoing fics, I’m also working on a six-chapter “Dragonriders of Pern,” story. So far I’ve written four-and-a-half chapters of it. I also wrote a few chapters for a series of random one-shots set in the same universe. I’m also working on a series of X-Men one-shots entitled, “Tales from Krakoa.” Plus, I have other Batman ideas and original ideas as well. It’s very distracting.

But I don’t plan on giving up. I’m going to plug away at all of my fics as best I can even if it takes me a long time to finish any of them. I just have to hope people will keep up with them even if I take years between chapters. I’d rather take longer than rush out a chapter I felt wasn’t good enough. I hope my readers, (as few as they probably are) can hang in there.
