in defence of the romantic comedy

I am a person who makes lists. I have a notebook full of them: cities I want to live in, favourite smells, names for a kitten, songs for a rainy day, characters I wish I had created, and on and on. At the top of my simple pleasures/instant happiness list? Romantic comedies. I love them! I really do, and I'm not the least bit embarrassed about ( Read more... )

And his delivery of it especially.
Yes! He's a bit pissed off and sad and confused, and I just really want to give him a hug.

I've only seen it twice (once to watch it the first time, once to cap) but I am most definitely seeing it again soon. Oh, I like Violet too! It was just a bit surprising that they were so alike. Moreso than typecasting, they were like the exact same person!

You're welcome! I could stare at Hugh forever. SO PRETTY.

I really liked the movie too, for several reasons :

-GRIIIIIIGG ! ♥ ♥ Damn, he's HAWT ! Can I have him please ? Or at least something like him ? He's perfect !
-Amy/Violet ! I love her !

Oh, Jane Austen Book Club! I saw it on the flight to Brisbane and I just remember being really surprised at the quality of the in-flight movie (I think we got Rush Hour 3 on the way back home) and just generally delighted by the movie. Hugh Dancy was absolutely charming as Grigg. I'd love to get it on DVD and watch it again since it was like, 6am watching it on the plane and craning my neck to get a nice clear view, ha.

Zoe, it just makes me so happy! Or Grigg does, really. This is the first thing I've seen Hugh Dancy in, so now I'm on the look out for other things he's in.

Ew, 6am is not a fun time to be on a plane, or, you know, awake at all. You should definitely watch it again, at a time when you're not sleepy and sitting awkwardly on a plane (I remember never ever being able to concentrate on anything during plane rides, and for some reason I always expected to be able to read books for school. I always ended up staring out the window.../tangent)!

???? How did I miss this?!?!?

This post is further proof of Grigg being superior to all other humans. I am madly in love with this screen cap. GOD DAMNIT, HUGH DANCY. There should be a spin-off Grigg television show, I don't care if that's the lamest idea ever, i just want MORE OF HIM. I want to know more about his life.

This movie was really pretty and I didn't think about that enough when I saw it. Such good lighting and good use of specific times of day!

Are the DVD special features good? I have yet to buy it.

I second Anna; how did I miss this?! Anyway, I LOVE IT. I caught the last five minutes of the movie on my flight home from San Francisco in January, and even though I couldn't hear anything, I thought, THIS LOOKS SO GOOD! As soon as I got home, I watched it. It made me so happy! Hugh Dancy was so great. I LOVE YOU, GRIGG. Honestly, Grigg is kind of perfect? Yes? He's so hysterical without meaning to be and so dorky but so in love with Jocelyn, and it's so lovely to watch him be all those things. I simply adore this cap and this one. Grigg-o! Please be a real person so that I may fall in love with you and discuss Austen all the time.

Also, I know exactly what you mean about the parallels between Sylvia and Violet. It's one of the first things I thought of when I watched it.

Emily Blunt! STOP BEING SO PRETTY. Grigg STOP BEING SO ADORABLE.
