Zoo-ropa and Mad Fax

My PI bought me a printer because I rather needed a new one in my office, and it's a haul to the next building over to print stuff in my lab. Unfortunately, I think (despite switching from Mac to PC repeatedly in the course of a day, writing my own statistical analysis programs for my research, and even programming a DVD player) that I have fallen ( Read more... )

So, for some reason, I never realized you were only a month older than me... I turned 24 on April 23rd. :)

So, I know we keep saying "let's go out sometime!", but perhaps, one of these days, before I leave for The Land of Ten Gallon Hats and Snakeskin Boots (a.k.a. - Texas), we should actually go do it. How about a week from this Saturday?

Umm. I'd like that. Planning a trip back home next week, but it might be a Friday night thing. Saturday would work. Actually, what are your feelings on barbecue? I may have an idea.

How long will you be in Tex-ass? Is Jonathan going too???

Jonathan and I are flying to Texas this Monday and we'll be back Thursday, then we're moving to Texas in late July. Jonathan got accepted to UNT, and I've got to work for a while before I can get an internship to finish my dietetics certification.

As for barbecue... I love it. I better if I'm going to live in Texas. I'm totally up for a barbecue. Just tell me where, when and what to bring. You can call me at 352-409-2467 if you want, or just respond back... We seem to communicate better through LJ anyways. :)

Okay, so I have just been informed by my beloved boytoy that we will be in South Florida visiting his family the weekend we are talking about getting together. So, maybe the weekend after? Is that okay?

Have the people at Apple solved this with the iPrint?

Actually, I'd name it the iMake. Or something.

I might be going to Seattle in January for a conference. I'll buy you coffee.

I'm guessing you don't have one then?

This thing is daunting. I really didn't need all these functions, let alone in one machine. It's the same rationale that keeps me from purchasing a BlackBerry. Or a cell phone that doubles as an mp3 player and movie watcher.

Only 24 and doing fancy research and well on your way to a PhD! Color me impressed!

Thank you! Sometimes I feel terrible for starting my PhD as late as 24, but at least I have two bachelors and an MS to show for it on the way?

Only downside of my academics right now is that the lack of free time is killing me slowly. I love work, but 11-hour days make little room for food. Or exercise. Or socialising...

How are you?

Oh, sure, only a couple of undergrad degrees and an MS... I quit grad school the first time around (about 8 years ago- eep!) and I'm now trying to wade through the paperwork to get into a completely different program, at a different school, for different reasons. I've come to realize that, on top of all the other reasons for doing this, I'm never going to be happy until I finish what I started, or at least finish some version of a post-graduate degree, even if it's not in the same field.

As for starting your PhD at 24, my mom was just past 50 when she started hers! It's never too late.

Kudos to your mom!!! I know a lot of people who aren't in the mindset for graduate school straight out of undergrad. I myself had to get over guilt for choosing a PhD over an MD (which my father had as well as a PhD). Now I'm just hoping I'll survive. And sometimes, 27-28 feels very very old to be finally becoming "Dr."

What's your graduate degree going to be in?

M and I joke about having our friends just give us gift cards and cold, hard cash. It's more practical, and less stressful for guests!*

*Then again, I also want to bake my guests personalized name cookies and have a ball pit and paintball at my wedding. So, never mind.
