I've discovered this evening that another huge part of the stress in my life is that I vehemently hate my job. Same job I had a year ago that I loved, but so much has changed since them

I sorta know how you feel. I've not been exactly happy with my job either or with my move to Sunny SoCal. But like you, I feel sorta trapped. I'm barely making it pay check to pay check and the thought of looking for anything else in this economy it a scary thought.
So I just keep sucking it up, finding joy where I can outside of work until things with the economy get better.
As for being grateful for having a job, some times I get so sick of hearing that phrase you know? Yes I am grateful, but son of a gun, does it really have to suck so hard some times?
I wish you much luck in whatever you decide to do and give N a hug for me. I know I don't need to tell you (but I'm going to anyway. ;) ) how lucky you are to have someone who's there for you and supports you. ;) Miss you guys!
What a rough emotional patch you are going through. Hang in there and know that you are not alone.
Sleep and good rest is first and foremost. Pose your questions and see what your waking dreams tell you.
Asking questions about what you want in life is good. Living with them unanswered for a while is harder.
But think of it like theatre - when you ask questions and leave them unanswered for a while (rather than plugging them with a pat immediate answer), you open yourself up to the limitless possibilities.
You have much within you and many dreams to see fulfilled. Give yourself the time to ask the questions and germinate the dreams to come.
I'd be more than willing to come over with scotch and a sprinkle of magic fairy dust to remind you how special you are!
as scarey as it seems I'd say go for your dream since you've got N in your corner. I don't know if that would mean taking classes or just jumping in with both feet and opening your own place. and if you do open your own place and need a secretary I'm available and willing to run away from home again.
or you could send an application to Duff and see if he's hiring. 0:)
Too late to apply for this season of Food Network Star and not sure when Top Chef starts taking apps for next season.
