So, it appears that I'm really stressed about the fact that N and I will be parents very soon. And I'm hoping that coming here to dump my brain will help process some of this stuff ( Read more... )

Warning: well-intentioned but massively ignorant speculation ahead...

Reading through the above, and also thinking about some of my own thoughts in this area as a non-parent, I suspect some of the underlying/subconscious stress and fear is coming from the fact that by having a child, you and N are undeniably tying yourself in a very concrete fashion to the cycle of mortality - and immortality. Okay, that sounds a bit weird, I know, since we all are born, live, and die. But by having a child, you're bringing that fact home in a different way, and as you said, your own parents aren't here with us in body anymore. It's not surprising that the advent of your son is stirring up some "OMG, I'm getting closer to death" subconscious worries. Plus there's the whole "I'm bringing a child into the world and weaving myself/my line into the future" part. In both aspects, I think stress and anxiety are both perfectly normal responses.

That being said, I'm with everyone else here in believing that you and N will be fantastic parents. Sprout is ( ... )

huh...you know, I never thought of it that way, but I'm sure that's part of it.
And thank you. I'm oddly less worried about what's going to happen once he gets here as I am about the time between now and then. *g*

just adding my 2 cents to the popular vote. :) you two are going to be fantastic moms. just love your son, and love each other. it all works out. :) and give yourself permission to be a bit freaked out. it's all new! :)
