From my perspective I think that point is not really the end discriminations, but rather that he showed that nothing is impossible (as he said during his speech, years ago black people couldn't be served at restaurants and now he was there being the first black president), which somehow brings back to life the "american dream". I have never been in the US, so what I know about that mostly comes from movies (sad, I know), but probably his electin will do good to many minorities not cause he'll do better than others, but just because somehow their status has become more "white" from now on
