I get this with computer advice from time to time, too -- in my case, it manifests itself in my father listening to advice from work colleagues before me, even when I can demonstrate I know more about the subject at hand than they do.

For some reason, many parents never quite seem willing to accept advice from their children, even on things the latter manifestly know quite a lot about. I suspect it's mostly to do with the fact mothers and fathers can never quite shift the mental image of their child as a helpless baby rather than a responsible adult.

So, while it's of course frustrating that our folks won't listen to us, it's at least somewhat understandable -- and, crucially, something we can't do much about.
