There is allegedly air conditioning in this library. It is also a very old stone building with lots of high ceilings for heat to escape into. 7,065. Either this is getting easier or I'm not writing as well.

I think I should get the fact that Thursday night is Pub Quiz Night taken into consideration when they mark this. It's really very unfair that I've missed it, and I fully expect to discover later that it was the one and only pub quiz ever to feature a round on Charlemagne.

6,099 words down. 3,901 to go in the next 23 hours (during which time I also have to write a 2000 word essay on a completely unrelated subject). I slept until 11 this morning and didn't really start working until 1, so it's entirely my own fault. Clearly my sleeping brain forgot that this dissertation = ONE NINTH OF MY DEGREE.

Have I mentioned recently that I hate students? Particularly their unnecessary noise in places which are supposed to be quiet? I think they are getting more annoying. Judging by the inane conversations some of them seem to be having I'm surprised they even managed to write their names on their UCAS forms ( Read more... )

Somehow, while NOT LEAVING THE FLAT on Wednesday, I caught a cold. It spent yesterday gradually getting worse on me while I was in Richmond trying to take pictures of herons work on my dissertation in a change of scenery, and then I woke up this morning and felt like death. I have set myself the task of writing 2000 words of dissertation today. So far I have managed 38, before getting stuck trying to find an instance of the use of a particular word in a particular context. Wallet stolen. GRR. How did 19th century doctors reach the point of arguing whether or not female orgasm was even possible when 200 years earlier they thought that not only was it possible but that it was necessary for conception?"
