Today is the last day of golf. Not the last day I'll be golfing, of course, but the last day my league meets this year. We're not doing our regular round, either. We're having a banquet afterward, so to get everyone off the course as early as possible we're playing it as a scramble. That's where everyone tees off, you determine who had the best ( Read more... )

Water & bananas. That's my recommendation (as given to me by a friend who is a nurse). There's something in the banana (vitamin b?) that helps with muscle cramps.

I don't get them too often, but those cramps are murder. Especially in the middle of the night when you're dead asleep. My leg is usually sore for at least a full day after that.

When I was in HS I got them in the arches of my feet a lot- from synchronized swimming.

I try to stretch a decent amount, but I still get the cramps.

Bananas are a very good idea. I used to get calf cramps regularly when I was on Ski Patrol. (It took about 25 years for me to find ski boots that didn't hurt.) The vitamin B and potassium were always a big help. Another weird cramp I used to get in my legs: if I was driving in start/stop highway traffic, the combination of leg position and increased tension would frequently cause my hip to cramp up. Not exactly good for driving!

You were a synchronized swimmer? That's so cool! I watched a bit of it during the Olympics. I know it gets mocked a lot, but I can't imagine anyone thinking it's not a worthy sport. Those ladies exemplify endurance, precision and muscle control better than most athletes, IMO.

I just had one of these crippling cramps this morning!
I was kind of just waking up - Katie and Amy were both gone and I went back to bed - and all of a sudden my calf just started to knot.
I was hoping I could relax and fight it off... No luck.
I swear I was shouting "STOP!" and "OWWWW AH AH AH ACH ACH!" really loudly. I have to figure out neighbors heard me.
Even now, five hours later, it feels like someone smashed me in the calf with baseball bat.
You ever see that clip on "Family Guy" where Peter hits his shin and sits on the ground going, "Ahhh... Ahhh... Ahhh..." over and over? That was me for a while this morning.
And I thought of your post the whole time!
