I had such high hopes for the new Sarah Jane Adventures (not to be confused with Sarah Connor Chronicles). Now, not so much.

She has a sonic lipstick.

Two words: Children's Show

It was pushed & created as Children's programming in the UK, so I'm guessing that's why.

I'll still watch,if only for the curiosity factor. I wouldn't let one little thing make you disappointed.

Cheers!

I am glad you said something. I know now not to download any of the episodes. Children's show or no, Sonic Lipstick is the worst idea I have ever heard. It is evidence that they put no creativity into the concept of this show, and if nothing else are looking for a cheap way to market more crap to children. Sure, Doctor Who markets stuff to children, but they don't base concepts within the television show around what will and will not sell as a toy. Blargh, I say!

Well, you wouldn't have to download them -- they're starting on SciFi in a couple of weeks. I think pickmansraven's got the right of it, though -- Doctor Who was originally developed as a "children's show" and the current incarnation (regeneration?) really isn't most of the time -- and Torchwood DEFINITELY isn't. Presumably this is them wanting to capture that other angle. However I don't like the idea that they're using my all time favorite companion to do it with, and for serious -- sonic lipstick? I am not a "feminist" but for chrissake, here. Sarah Jane was smart, and competent, and had her shit together. If in the last 30 years she's gotten so her most formidable tool against bad guys is lipstick (sonic or otherwise), she really needs to get locked in a room with Leela and Tegan and Martha and Romana I and even f'ing Jo Grant until they can smack some sense into her.

As for the toy angle? Something tells me that little girls are not going to be running out to buy Sarah Jane brand Bonnie Bell Lip Gloss.
