The house passed something last week saying they wouldn't leave until September.

Who know's what they will decide next!

By the way, if they their deployment gets extended, how long is an extention? (normally?)

It all depends I have heard between 3-6 months, it all depends if the unit taking thier place is there and ready to take over when they need to be.
