Sunday. We survived the weekend. We had our second birthday party of the weekend today, our friends hosted a private party at The Childrens' Museum in Portland - apparently you can come two hours before they open at noon so you have the whole place to yourself. So, $343,927 is the threshold for "adjusted gross income" for being in the top 1% of households in 2009 (in this group mean income was $1,324,572). I don't know about you, but my AGI was definitely lower than my total income earned. The year is also important, because the reason it was lower that year than any other was because the stock market tanked capital gains were lower than usual (you can tell, because the average tax rate was 4% higher than two years earlier: the result of more income coming from work and less from capital gains.) That number also includes all tax returns, including those who had zero AGI in a year with record unemployment: if you only consider people who actually had taxable income it's closer to $500,000 (I couldn't find exact numbers ( ... )
