Oh yeah I forgot you were younger than me. Finer points of being old: parents income doesn't matter, problem is, you may make too much yourself by the time you turn 25. Boo.
Masters programs at private schools are often just moneymakers. So you probably want to find out if all or most of the graduates of the program actually get jobs in museums. And you should decide for yourself if working in a museum is your dream job. If the answers to both those questions are yes then it might be worth accruing some debt to attend the program. If what you really want is to be in New York, you can always just move there. And if you just want to get a degree from a cool institution like NYU, it's not worth it.
The issue here is that you don't want to go to a school that doesn't offer you any funding. That's basically the school saying, "We don't like you enough to offer you living expenses, but we'll take your money." Don't ever do it. That's half the reason I turned down Austin. Go where the money is.
