So, my brother go married on Saturday. Chris and I went up to Ottawa last Wednesday
So, we arrived Wednesday night and settled into the house. Thursday was fairly busy. My poor brother had to work through the middle of the day on Friday, so Chris and I and my parents cleaned the house for him. Dude, really big job and totally exhausting. Then we went to visit with my grandma to relax a little. Grandma and I got sloshed, which was fun. We then went back to the other house for dinner with Jer before some of his friends arrived at the house from DC. Six of his friends came to stay over at the house.
So, here's a funny story...Chris and I went out for a walk by the river and told Jer that if he went out with his friends, feel free to lock the door because we had a key. When we came back from our walk, everyone was gone, so we got all ready for bed. I took an Ambien, because I really wanted to get a full night's sleep and with 7 other people in the house, I wasn't optimistic. Apparently, about 20 minutes after we went to sleep, Jer and his friends got back. Jer had forgotten his house key and we had locked him out. They rang the bell, banged on the door...all kinds of things, but we couldn't hear them. Chris is a heavy sleeper and I was medicated. They had to call my dad at my grandma's house and he had to come over and let them in. Chris and I knew nothing about it until the next morning. Jer kind of blamed us, but dude, it's not our fault he didn't bring his house key. He lives there, for goodness sake.
Anyway, Friday we went out and opened a bank account for our arrival next month. We then went back to grandma's to chill until the rehearsal. The wedding was held at pretty much the nicest hotel in Ottawa, so that's where we did the rehearsal and then we went for Italian for dinner. The rehearsal went pretty smoothly, thanks to my dad who took charge. Dinner was very nice, but long and tiring. My mom totally cried when she read the thank you card that Jer and Emma wrote for my parents. I was donig a reading at the wedding, so Jer and Emma got me a nice necklace.
Here are a couple of pictures. I didn't feel like sizing them down for the LJ, so I'm just linking.
Dad taking charge Jer, Uncle David and Ben...being crazy Me, Ben and Chris Right after the rehearsal dinner, I started to get a sore throat. Chris figured that I had just talked too much, but I knew I was getting sick. Saturday morning I woke up with a nice sore throat and a stuffy nose...perhaps a fever as well. What's up with me and weddings? Sick for my own wedding and sick for my brother's. I chilled out most of the morning, spending some time with Jeremy. I even tweezed his eyebrows. Hehe. That was interesting. He kept sneezing. After lunch, we went downtown to set up the wedding. My parents helped out a bit because I was sick. I put together the centerpieces, put out the favors and chocolates. We had rooms at the hotel, so we went up to the room to get dressed for the wedding. I decided on the brown dress in the end, but it was down to the wire.
Then it was quickly downstairs for family photos with Jer. Soon it was time for the wedding. Jeremy was so nervous and he had to stand up there getting nervous while Emma's dad was MIA. The ceremony started a little late, but it was beautiful. Emma looked gorgeous and my brother looked so happy. I totally cried. I was very anxious about my reading. I didn't want to mess it up because it was a poem that Jeremy actually wrote. I think I did a pretty good job. The wrote their own vows and Jer's were beautiful. Dad really lost it.
Nervous groom Gorgeous bride Wedding party After the ceremony we were involved in taking more formal pictures and then I raced to the cocktail hour to get some food. The reception started at just after 7, but there's wasn't any dancing until 10, so how do you fill the time? The bride and groom asked people not to clink their glasses in that annoying way to get them to kiss, but rather to come to the microphone and tell a story or sing a love song. Best idea ever. We got some funny stories about Jer and Emma. One of Jer's friends got up and sang 'Love Boat'. I pondered and pondered what I could do to embarass my brother. I came up with an idea that worked perfectly. My mom and I went up to the microphone (with background singers, Dad, Uncle David and Chris) and sang 'It's Raining Men', with the preface that it used to be Jer's favorite song when he was younger. Hehehe.
Dinner was a soup, salad and beef tenderloin, which was pretty good. After dinner, there were some toasts. I gave an impromtu speech, in which I got all emotional again. Then, they cut the cake. My brother was all sweet and fed Emma her cake. Emma returned the favor by smashing it in his face.
Cake Smash Then it was finally time for their first dance, followed by the parent dances.
First Dance Mom and Jer I was feeling pretty sick by this point, so I didn't do much dancing. I spent some time with my cousins and left the party close to 12. I would say the wedding was a great success. I hardly have any pictures of myself so far, but here's one of Chris and I.

Dancing Bouquets Champagne glass In other news, I've been sick for days and I still feel like crap. I have so much to do, but I haven't gotten a thing done since I got home. I'm starting to get really nervous about Harry Potter. Everywhere I go online, I see headlines about spoilers. Dude, just a couple more days. If I get spoiled, I'm going to be so mad.
