K's been watching The Last Airbender again, and damn, it is so good. Iroh's Tale is so perfect; SO much character development, so little blathering. Now I know what bothered me about Korra: Korra is written (maybe subconsciously) as a radio play-- that's why there's hardly anything that happens without dialogue--it's all tell and hardly any show.
Per the WSJ, the show's creators like telling things in a 12 episode format cause it's short and sweet, no filler, now they can concentrate on improving the animation, blah blah blah. I hope they and lots of people liked what they've created but I didn't. Amon's identity is too convenient, the final solution Tarlock comes up with is just too neat for the series, and Korra's losing and finding of her powers in five minutes was too easy to have enriched her character. Tenzin's accolade feels as misplaced as Obama's Nobel Peace Prize: What for the why????!!
We just saw the finale! It was definitely a bit deus ex machina (everyone's powers were a lot cooler when the plot said they were winning), and the teeny love triangle is annoying (the adult one was great, I thought!), but I thought Tarlock's final solution scene was perfect! The only really memorable scene in there. Still, I really enjoyed this season. I would like to see another one!
Still totally underwhelmed with Amon's ID and demise -- he turns out to be pretty much substanceless-- he had no real plan for replacing firebender-generated electricity or for ensuring that future benders wouldn't be born. I wanted the bending system to have a genuine threat on their hands. If all the baddies they write are going to turn out to be paper tigers, ain't nothin gonna change, and isn't that their goal for LoK?
Mako is a manwhore. I'll watch another season hoping the writers give him weaselcrabs.
Yeah, it's disappointing there isn't a plan. Especially since the whole equalizer movement had a reasonable point in the first place. Now that it's gone off the rails, nothing will change!
