Another oddity of language. I blame people. What perfidiousness brings the English language to have the French word 'encore' for a call for more at the end of a performance when the French actually shout 'bis'?
Ag, basically, why is a raven like a writing desk?

But no one says that S on the end... Plus they are nasty buggers. Nass-ty.

For a moment I was thinking 'but there IS no 's' on the end of 'French'. I shared a billet with what we cheerfully called the Foreign Lesion Guy and he was a nasty bugger. Trust me on this.
Anyway. Nobody says the 'up' in Stratford-upon-Avon, either, but you just try and remove it with a stroll around the town and a late night can of spray paint and see how much fuss there is! :D
