“Sean,” Orlando called out, a large smile on his face as he jogged over to Sean’s car before Sean could even get all the way out.

“Orlando,” Sean responded as he shut the car door. His smile wasn’t quite as big and bright as Orlando’s, but more sincere than if Orlando had been followed by a group of Hobbits. “Last minute shopping?”

“Yeah,” Orlando admitted, shoving his hands into his pockets and giving Sean a slightly sheepish grin. “I kept hoping that Liv would at least give me a hint at what she wanted.

Sean laughed out loud and patted Orlando on the back. “Lad, Liv’s a woman.”

“Well, yeah,” Orlando said, his brows drawing together as he tried to figure out the connection.

“You ever have a girlfriend?” Sean asked, raising an eyebrow at Orlando.

The blush across Orlando’s cheeks and the slight duck of his head and Sean mentally kicked himself for asking the question. There were plenty of rumors around the set about Orlando, and his lack of interest in female company, but so far Orlando hadn’t said anything to him, though even Sean had to admit he had his suspicions about the lad.

“Well, let me explain something about women,” Sean said, nodding for Orlando to follow him as he started to walk down the street. “Women are always dropping hints. About everything.” Seeing the slightly confused look on Orlando’s face, Sean decided to press on. “Like if a woman comes to visit, and she seemingly casually mentions that your flat has a bit of a chill, she’s hinting that you should turn up the thermostat.”

The blank look stayed a moment more on Orlando’s face before it was replaced by a grin and Orlando burst out laughing.

“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard,” Orlando said, still laughing so hard that an older couple passing by gave him an inquisitive look. “Any girl I know would have turned up the bloody thermostat herself.”

“Trust me, some girls may be like that,” Sean said, stopping in front of a particular store. “But they are not all like that.”

“So, what is it that Liv wants?” Orlando asked as they enter the store. “A CD?” he asked, looking around at rows of CDs around them.

“No, Orlando,” Sean said with a secretive smile. “Not a CD. A particular CD. One that had to be special ordered three weeks ago, so don’t even start thinking you can steal the idea,” he adds as they approach the counter.

Orlando slid up next to Sean, just close enough that their shoulders brushed. Orlando glanced over at Sean, to see if he noticed, but all of Sean’s attention seemed to be trained on the sales girl, and the sales girl’s low cut shirt as she bent over to read Sean’s sales slip. Orlando drew away from Sean slightly, fingers drumming lightly on the counter as the sales girl turned away to retrieve Sean’s order.

“So, um, you’re just here to pick up Liv’s birthday gift?” Orlando asked, finger still tapping lightly on the counter.

“Well, yes, that was really all that I had planned,” Sean said, then turned his attention back to the sales girl as she came back with his package.

“So, you don’t have anything else to do this afternoon?” Orlando asked carefully as Sean checked the contents of the package then smiled his thanks to the sales girl.

“Nothing firm,” Sean said, wondering what Orlando had in mind. Knowing Orlando, it could be anything from shopping for another awful outfit to jumping out of a plane. “Have some things to do yet,” he hedged as they headed out the door. “Did you need something?”

“Nothing really,” Orlando said, shoving his hands into his pockets. It was easy to see that Sean didn’t look like he wanted to hang around. “I was just going to get some lunch. Too hungry to go shopping on an empty stomach.” He paused for a moment as the look of apprehension on Sean’ face began to fade. “And I was hoping you could teach me more about this whole picking up on clues with woman thing,” he added, flashing Sean a grin. “Now that you mention it, I’m thinking that might have something to do with why my mom keeps asking of we’re getting any time off over Christmas...”
