All my life, I've been allergic to clean. Well, specifically almost all commercially available cleaning products. Half due to the substances used, the other half the fragrances they use to mask the chemicals, and in special cases (409, I'm looking at you) both. They make me wheezy, and give me migraines ( Read more... )

I also like that the prices on such items are becoming competitive. Recently at Costco, I bought a jug of Kirkland Signatures eco-friendly laundry detergent, and it was the least expensive of the KS lines (by a dime).

I've been noticing that lately. Fun to see the whole supply/demand thing working this way :)

I hear you on the 409 thing. I can't believe I used it for so many years! I do everything with vinegar/water/baking soda/Dr. Bronner's liquid soap now. So far, it has stood up to every test, though I haven't had anything truly dreadful yet. I even use vinegar in my carpet washer instead of the shampoo!

I love the availability of less toxic laundry detergent, in particular, when it comes to commercial products. Better for my clothes, not as stinky, better for the water supply! :)

I need to grab some Dr. Bronner's for other stuff around the house. I have some good, unscented stuff for spray cleaning, but when that is out, I'm going to try the vinegar route. I might need to see if I can scent it with lavender or something, since I just don't like that smell, even if it doesn't last very long.

I invested in the Bac-Out because of Chiana (and her hairballs). The active enzymes break stuff down really well, so even if it is an old mess, it cleans up super-fast. (Also, it is good with other pet accidents as well, not that she's had that problem.)
