The President ultimately answers to the people. He really shouldn't be dictating our lives so much as we dictate his. True, he's more qualified than the average citizen, and must therefore rely on his experience (and that of his advisers) to condense the collective will of the people into policy. I don't envy that job, but I greatly respect it, no matter who fills the role.

I think any administration's longest lasting influence on American culture is the appointing of Supreme Court Justices. These elect few will serve for life - long after the administration that puts them in place has left - interpreting law on the most controversial issues of our day. It strikes me as strange that these appointments have no term.

Anyway, I'm glad it's all over, too. Those ads are beyond annoying.

The robocalls were insane this year! We never answer our home phone anyway, we just review messages. Every day we would have 6-8 new messages, either hang-ups or political robo calls. Jason started answering them just so he could hang up on the robot mid-sentence; the funniest one was Bill Clinton calling us reminding to fill out the entire ballot. haha :)

There was a lady being interviewed on NPR who said if Obama was elected it will be the end of free speech. Right - because one thing Democrats hate is free speech. ??? In the end, people believe what they want, no matter if there is any basis in fact or reality. I found the book Jesus for President by Shane Claiborne to be refreshing - it poses the question of how much as Christians we should support the political system, which is ultimately part of a fallen world.
