After reading the poems within the book the Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, I decided to discuss the poem The Ad-dressing of Cats. I found this poem to be entertaining and amusing. Dog Or Cat? shali1 October 22 2005, 01:38:17 UTC
Hey Jenna,
I gotta say, I might also be more like a dog than a cat. This poem, in it's simplistic rhyming, may have suggested that some people will be more like a dog, or some would be more like a cat. Cats are apparently in need of the attention, and hence the demand to call them by their name, where as a dog, is more outgoing. Rough and tough dogs, and dainty and shy. So I too liked the interpretation of the poem. As for the stanzas, and the rhyming, I noticed the same flow, but in light verse I guess that simplicity wins out, making it fun and entertaining to read.

Nice analysis of the cats poem. I love the way they can be read. I believe that it has to do with the lines and the way the poem flows. What I find interesting is that the third stanza is thirty lines long. One of the most noticable qualities of a poem is the fact that it is "always portioned of into verses or stanzas." And, as most generalizations go, the stanzas are normally shorter in length. The poet obviously didn't do that, so it can be assumed that he did it purpoesely. Why? I haven't the slightest clue...well, perhaps to do some rambling, but other than that...
