Oh, I'm not going to fire at ya, I agree that healthcare in this country is pretty screwed up now, and effects so many people.

Privilege, is pretty relative. I think almost all the people in this country, even the poor, are privileged compared to many places in the world where they don't have running water and where there are horrible wars going on, the Congo or -- many places where people shit in holes in the ground. I figure the biggest break I ever got was being born in North America -- period.

I agree - privilege is relative and complex. Most people who I have ever worked with -- or even known socially (with strong middle class backgrounds) are horrified at the thought of ever going a stretch without health insurance.

SF General has done alright by me, though there isn't a similar option in the East Bay if I ever needed it and most towns don't have those kinds of options. I got hit by a city bus on my bike in New Orleans and the hospital still sent me bills even though I said I would not be able to pay for treatment - for all I know, it went to collections...
