A Series of Unfortunate Events

Well, I'll just say that I didn't finish the dress in time for the party Saturday night. As hard as I worked, even up until the moment I jumped in the shower, I just couldn't make it happen. (Believe me, though, I did consider asking my friend to pin me IN the darn thing!)But alas....it just wouldn't have been the same.

Now before I post pictures of what I DID get done, I must tell my sad tale of woe and despair about trying to find "outfit B"!! (And let me tell you, it was NOT in the stars for me to have an easy time getting dressed that night.)

First of all, there was the dejection over not getting the dress finished. I had to pout in the shower, head pressed to wall and fighting back tears for about fifteen minutes, before I pulled my act together and decided the show must go on. So, I got out of the shower and pulled out a nice beaded bustier and some dressy slacks out of the back of my closet. (Now, mind you the party theme was "all black", so I was limited on my choices. Granted, the dress I was making wasn't all black...but meh...close enough. LOL) I was feeling semi-chipper again, and laid the top on the floor in my closet and went back to primping in the bathroom. Well, not too much later, I went to get dressed and noticed the bustier was wet. Wet? Yes...wet.

*panic*

(cue small dog in corner, looking pitiful)

Yes...you guessed it! THE DOG PISSED ON MY TOP!

*cries*

You see, my poor 12-year-old shih-tzu, Morgan, who is my first baby, gets very nervous when our babysitter comes over. And when she gets nervous, she often  goes and tinkles somewhere. And this time it was ON MY FRIKKING SHIRT!!!! Anyway, I told her it's a good thing she's so cute or she would be orbiting the dark side of the moon, courtesy of my left foot right about then. LOL!

Well, that did it. I was about to give up. I know. It was almost comical, but somehow watching my husband LAUGH over it did nothing to settle my mood.

*rolls eyes*

So, in the end I channeled my inner "Kate Moss" and ended up putting a cute belt over this bell-skirted strapless number.  I finally cheered up, knowing that I still have several occasions to wear my other dress this season, so all is not lost. Plus, by that time, I knew I had a pretty kick-ass funny story to entertain all my friends at the shindig!!!!! LOLZ!

If life gives you a lemon, turn it into lemonade.....right?

SO

Now I'll shut my yapper and show you what I DID get finished.

(Now, keep in mind the dress needs a good pressing. You can see the bottom is a bit more flippy than necessary. Also, I didn't get the zipper in yet. Even after all the fittings I did, the back still puckers a bit and needs adjusted.  Oh, and I am the world's WORST photographer, so these pictures are horrible.)

Here are some of the finishing touches I'm planning:
  • Make final alterations and insert zipper. (It will be a metallic zipper, exposed and with black trim around the edges.
  • Put a bra in the top for shape and support, with tiny wide-set lingerie straps
  • I might shorten the bottom hem to make it even all the way around. I'm not sure if I like the curved bottom, where it's longer on the sides.
  • I also might put a weighted chain along the hem to help it drape/hang better. (I'll see what happens after I get it pressed.)
  • I'm toying around with adding a tiny shredded silk ruffle along the top of the bust.
  • I will probably wear this with a ribbon belt at the natural waistline. (Black will be lovely, but a dark burgundy would rock, too.)
