I loved Judith Wright's "Bora Ring." I felt that it captured the deep sense of loss felt by the Aboriginal people. The breakdown of oral tradition led to the loss of cultural knowledge. The language, rituals and stories have been lost or are not understood by the contemporary Aboriginal people. I felt that the poem acted in a similar function to ( Read more... )

Wow, that was a wonderful poem you wrote. I really enjoyed reading it. It ties so well with "Bora Ring". Your title really caught my attention aswell, from what i understood your poem is the view of what happened to the Aboriginal poeple outside their community. Am i right or totally off track????

I think you really captured some of the issues which are still present today. In a sense, the part of history which people would rather be forgotten than acknowledged and reflected on. My favourite part is the last stanza it really hits you in an emotional way and it made me think about this hidden past that i myself dont even know as much as i could about.

I think you did a fantastic job! Keep up the good work!

I also really loved this poem. Its lyrical voice of oppression is superbly conveyed. I felt as though it invited me to reflect upon the significance of this time in a dissimilar approach, in a somewhat gentle manner, rather than an intense and painful one- like so many I have recently read ( ... )

Hello! coincidently we chose the same poem to write about. I absolutely loved Bora Ring as well! I agree with you about the deep sense of loss of aboriginal culture as well as nostalgic feeling. I was really interested of the link you put between william thornhill and the poem. It never occured to me and i would have never thought about it but when i read your post i found it quite fascinating.
Secondly, i really enjoyed the poem that you had written in response to the Bora Ring (if im correct? i hope). I think you really succeeded in bringing out the same feeling from the Bora ring, a sense of nostalgia and melancholy. Great Work! hope to be seeing more work from you!
