There are a few problems you may incurr, but from reading your journal of late i think it's worth a try. A fresh start sounds like it would be a good idea.
I've lived in America when I was younger and the only thing is ( and this applies to Austrailia too) is the greencard/ visa thing, there are not easy to get hold of, but a six month working visa is slightly easier to procure, look into emmigration laws and stuff in both countries. America is not a cheap place to live and they will not even let you into the country unless you already have a job secured.
Why not think about Europe, you are already a European citizen so it would not be a problem and most people in France /Germany etc. speak English anyway.
Germany is also a cleaner/cheaper place to live than here ( although has high unemployment!)

Well, for Auz, they'll only take people with qualifications for proffessions they need, so you cant just go there now.
As for the states, you can apply for a 6month working visa.
But my advice...dont run away, the past always stays with you.
