Totally stole this

Stole this from angelus2hot.

1.Describe your comfort zone-a typical you-fic.
Angst. UST. More angst. Sometimes less angst. A touch of humor. Usually some adventure.
Actually, it's been so long since I've written fic (been too busy with school), that I forget what I like to write.

2.Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
I know there is because I've wanted to jot down some from TVtropes to take a stab at, but I always forget, so I can't think of one off hand right now. I tend to write a lot of stranded fic because it's so easy to do with SG-1 fic.

[totally wasted too much time filling this out]3.Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Probably

4.How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
I don't have time to count all of them. I've been binge watching Castle, so I have a couple ideas for fics. I've never written for Castle before so it's intimidating, especially since I know nothing about police procedure or New York City (research! I hate research!). All I've actually got is the outline for the actual murder mystery--I have no idea what the characters are going to do. I'm supposed to be working on that right now. *shifty eyes*

5.Share one of your strengths.
Umm... I hate questions that sound like bragging or self-promotion. I've been told I characterize really well. I think my dialogue is really good.

6.Share one of your weaknesses.
not finishing anything?

7.Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Yeah, I wouldn't even know where to start. And I don't think I have a favorite, nor could I pick one.
I can't say this is a favorite piece or even a favorite quote, but I've always loved it (gosh the grammar is atrocious):

Daniel had once told him that he thought if Jack and Sam ever had kids it would be a sign of the coming apocalypse and those kids would be at the center. Jack had snorted in response, but as he watched his son, he was beginning to believe Daniel was pretty dead on with his depiction. The combination of Sam's hyper-intelligence and Jack's penchant for mischief blended seamlessly into a pint-sized package topped with untamed brown hair and piercing blue eyes that Jack swore could bore into his soul. He was pretty sure it was wrong to be terrified of a three year old, precocious or not.

8.Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

See above.
Honestly, I can't remember what I've written. I'd have to reread everything just to pick something.

9.Which fic has been the hardest to write?

I don't think there have ever been that were hard to write. Lots that were hard to finish because I got bored, but never to write. I guess I don't push myself to write things that might make me uncomfortable.

10.Which fic has been the easiest to write?

Lots of them. I've been known to write five or six stories (100-2000 words) in a day.

11.Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?

Somewhere in between. It's supposed to be a passion, but I don't seem to have any focus, so it's more of a hobby at the moment.

12.Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

Any of the really angsty ones.

13.What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Show, don't tell. Seriously. My junior high English teacher told me that. Unfortunately I never got what that meant until a few years ago. Now it's always in the back of my head.

Also, write what you want to read.

14.What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?

Stop writing if you never plan to get paid for it (WTF?).

15.If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

No freaking idea. Maybe one of my novels I'm working on (actual novels, not fanfic).

16.If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

That's just mean. Why would you ask something like that?

17.Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

Yes. If I don't write linearly I get myself all confused.

18.Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

Scrivener. Sometimes I outline, sometimes I don't. Depends on my mood and the length of the piece.

19.Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

Do TV characters count?

20.Describe your perfect writing conditions.

Quiet.

That's it. I just need it to be quiet. All right, my perfect conditions would be a very neat/tidy/clean room, everyone gone or asleep so it's q-u-i-e-t, and maybe a beer. With five kids, that never happens. Or when it is quiet, it's 3am, and I'm exhausted and unable to think straight.

21.How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
We're supposed to revise? Did I miss a memo?

I'm horrible at editing. For my short fic, I usually read it over once or twice and check for grammar/spelling/punctuation. That's the extent of my revisions. For longer works, I'll do more. Usually only three passes, though, before I get tired of looking at it.

22.Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style. (Person sending the ask is free to make suggestions).

I was actually doing this a few months ago. I want to revise some of my very early stories so they aren't awful. The stories are okay, but I know so much more about writing now. And I have a far better grasp on grammar than I did just four years ago. I cringe whenever I read my old stuff--it's embarrassing. I don't really have time to go searching for a passage, though.

23.If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

This is easy. Work of Fiction. In fact, I've already started to do that (see above). A couple months ago, I was outlining a new version that expanded on my original, and that had a plot that made more sense. Work of Fiction is an SG-1 AU where the Stargate was never activated in the 40s. It sits outside the Smithsonian as an art display until Apophis comes through and takes hostages. Sam is seen as loony because she believes the "Ring" is a gateway, Daniel is a novelist after his theories about the pyramids got him laughed out of academia, Jack's on his way to being dishonorably discharged (and ends up getting demoted to Major), and Teal'c is still in service of Apophis. Kawalsky makes up the fourth member of the team when they figure out the Ring. There's a whole series (more planned than written).

24.Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?

Only ones that were unfinished. After a few years, I decided I hated having unfinished fic up (because I dislike reading fic that isn't and never will be finished--it makes me sad), so I took down the ones I hadn't worked on in years.

25.What do you look for in a beta?

I've never used a beta.

26.Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?

I haven't betaed, but if I did, I'd be the kind that could completely tear apart a story if need be. I would not be the kind that just corrects grammar (unless that is all they requested) then pats the author on the head and tells them they did a great job (unless they actually did).

27.How do you feel about collaborations?

Never tried it.

28.Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

Yeah, can't answer that. I haven't read fic in forever. And I don't like to play favorites.

29.If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

OMG, I've wanted to write fanfic for some of the fics I've read. I couldn't begin to tell you which ones, though.

30.Do you accept prompts?

no

31.Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?

I tend to stick close to canon. If I deviate, it makes logical sense.

32.How do you feel about smut?

don't read it or write it

33.How do you feel about crack?

Drugs are bad!
Oh, you mean the other kind of crack. If it's well written then... The only crack I've written myself was some mpreg for a bad fic challenge. It's hilariously awful.

34.What are your thoughts on non-con and dub-con?

No problem if it's done right and makes sense in the story.

35.Would you ever kill off a canon character?

On of my favorite stories I've written (also one of my earliest) kills off all of SG-1 except Daniel. The whole thing follows Daniel's descent into madness as he's tortured and his friends are killed off one by one. It's all made worse by Sam and Jack turning on him and shunning him. It was a lot of fun to write--my first 1st person, present tense story.

36.Which is your favorite site to post fic?

LJ. I also post at AO3.

37.Talk about your current wips.

Which one of the dozen? I mentioned the Castle fic being outlined above. I've been too busy with school to really write, and I have too many unfinished stories to mention. I remember I was working on a Spike/Buff Christmas fic back in December, but hell if I remember where I was going with it now.

38.Talk about a review that made your day.

I don't really get reviews so all of them make my day. The ones from campylobacter make me smile the most because she always has something awesome to say about my Daniel/Vala fic.

39.Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

I got this review once on ff.net (back when I posted there) saying my story was really good until it got to the end and I blindsided him/her with blatant Sam/Jack. He said that ruined the story and my integrity by bowing to the shippers. I couldn't help but laugh. I've never hidden the fact that I'm a shipper, and 95% of my stories focus on one ship or another. Also this story was gen. The only Sam/Jack in it was acknowledging the attraction between the two which was done on the show numerous times. I think the guy read a little too much into things.

40.Write an alternative ending to [insert fic title] (or just the summary of one).

Why would I write alternate endings to my fics... they ended the way I wanted them to end. Duh.
Okay, I take that back. I'd rewrite the ending of Last Chance so people would stop asking if I was going to write a sequel (which has been on my list of things to do for like four years). I don't have time to do it right now, though.

meme, me: all about, procrastination
