Denied health care because of domestic violence

Apparently, domestic violence can disqualify someone from health care coverage under pre-existing condition clauses.

WTF? Seriously?

Seriously. I'm glad that Arkansas got it together but still, it's sad that there is still 8 other states, in 2009, that are allowing health insurance companies to deny coverage because of domestic violence.

Similarly, a rape victim takes Anti-HIV meds after her assault and is later denied health care because this is seen as a pre-existing condition: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/21/insurance-companies-rape-_n_328708.html

She was denied health care coverage because she was prescribed anti-HIV meds as a prevention technique. She was prescribed these meds because she was RAPED.

I can haz healthcare reform nao?

This shit makes me so angry that I can't even write a coherant rant about it.

health care reform, sexual assault, domestic violence, health insurance
