Because ignoring differences ignores the fact that there is a massive amount of social injustice due to these differences.

Who says difference has to be about the differences we have as people. Skin color, sexuality, politics. Why not make difference mean making a difference? Affecting chance through ones own actions. It's a technicality, but it's difference. Just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks.
