P.A.N.D.A.S. - Update

Last month I wrote a locked post about an 11-year-old friend of mine who has P.A.N.D.A.S., which stands for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections. I'm so, so happy to read this, Jennifer. I can only imagine what that entire experience has been (and continues to be, as they continue treatment). Hooray for Julie's mom being the fierce advocate her child needed.

I can't imagine what this experience has been like for the parents either! If Julie's mom weren't a nurse, I wonder if she would have known to dig deeper into the cause of the OCD symptoms. It makes me wonder how many kids might be suffering from this curable disorder.

It's scary contemplating these situations flying under the radar. But by writing about this, you might have helped someone else make those connections.

I agree, the body is so complicated. The brain is so tough and yet so fragile. I'm glad my friends were stubborn too. It makes me wonder how many people out there have a disorder that can be treated.
