remembering

I've decided life is kinda boring. So boring, that I've been playing Jordan's guitar nonstop. I was playing a few times a week when school was in session, but then I sort of stopped when things got rough. Picking it up again makes me feel better. I was digging through Casey's old stack of music that Jordan keeps in his room, playing some of his ( Read more... )

I'm sleeping on the couch when one eye opens and I start to feel myself hum, there's music coming from my room. Not random music, our music. After all this time, it's nice. Nice to remember the good times. I sit up and stand, walking over to the doorframe of my room and leaning against it, just listening for a couple minutes.

The break in this particular song is pretty tricky, the only reason Case would write something like this is cuz' he knew Jor could play it hands down no problem. There's lyrics under the music and I couldn't help but sing a little. Mom used to tell me I had a nice voice, I don't really think so. Jordan likes it too, so I figure they're both crazy.

I always like it when Jenny sings. Her tone's pretty unique, but she always gets embaressed about it. Her guitar skills have gotten better since I've last heard her too, she's starting to play really well. Makes a brother and a teacher proud, looks like sitting down with her in front of the piano all those times paid off.

The last verse of that particular song carries through the room, and I put it aside. Leafing through the pile, I find a few more of Case's drafts, ideas he had but never got to put on the stage. I shake my head, putting them aside too. The next piece of music in the pile catches my eye however. In the bottom right corner of the creased page in scripty handwriting written neatly is J. McEvans. For Taffy. 12/24/04.

I walk over to the kitchen counter, opening a cabinet to get him a cup. Filling it with ice and then pouring some bottled water into it, I bring it over to the table and set it in front of him. "No, it was my fault. I shouldn't of started..." I sigh, not knowing how to finish. "...you really wrote that?"

I nod again, bringing the cup to my lips to take a drink. Feels good going down my throat. I stare at the dull wood of the table.

I move to sit across from him, putting my elbows on the table and leaning forward on them. "It was really good, Jor. Didn't know you could write like that."

I take another sip of the water, feeling my voice return to it's usual tone. "Helps when you have good inspiration." I say, almost smiling. I look off towards the living room and stare at the blank screen of the TV before back to what's in front of me. "You really should uh, find a group or something, Jen. Your fingers can work a guitar and your voice is awesome. Any band would be lucky to have you."
