WOW... just wow. Are those people grownups? I'm going back to my default "this is what's wrong with people now" statement: The under 30 crowd grew up with too few consequences and no sense of personal responsibility with all the "new parenting" garbage LOL. We just may be doomed.

Money minded? You mean stingy?

I only got to "Frankly, I don’t think it’s fair that people be penalized for not thinking like bankers." before I wanted to break something. Not spending money you don't have is not thinking like a banker. If your bank offers overdraft protection and you don't want it, opt out. If they don't let you, switch banks. If you didn't know about it, it's your own damn fault for not reading the papers you signed. It's not rocket science.

It's funny how that one commenter brings up the European banking system as an example. While, yes, it's more modern, it works according to the same principle. If you spend the bank's money instead of your own, you pay. Overdraft protection, called a "Dispo" here, is very common. It's usually granted based on your monthly income, and you pay interest for using it. And if you don't want it, speak up and the option is gone.

Actually, it's about overdraft fees, which these days almost aways come from overuse of a debit card. Who writes checks anymore, besides grandmas at birthdays and Christmas?!

By the way -- I've added the comments from the massive Facebook feud to the original blog entry. You can see the full debate here:
