As our townhouse has no door from the living room floor to the top floor (our bedroom), keeping the kitties out of our room at night (when they are most rambunctious) is challenging. Would it be possible to install a real door or door-height gate at the top or bottom of the stairs? Even if the door doesn't reach all the way to the ceiling, it would deter them (and might be useful in other situations).

Our vet has recommended the Invisible Fence system, a conditioning system. It's way expensive but I think it'll be worth it if it works. She says it's worked beautifully for the very opinionated office cat and everyone else whom she know has tried it. If we go for it, I'll certainly report back. We need to a) keep Minnow from leaving the house and b) keep Minnow out of Myst's food.
