I did buy a poppy...and promptly lost it somewhere between the grocery store exit and the car. Sigh. Good thing there are extra's from last year still stuck in my car visor

The Thanksgiving thing is interesting as the US celebrates Veteran's Day on Nov 11 and yet we kept Thanksgiving in November. And of course Canadian Thanksgiving is also a day off in the US as Columbus Day.
Before 1931 the governement would decide when Thanksgiving was, usually in November and it was always a different day, when it was best for them. Remembrance Day was originally wanted to be on the first monday of November because the business sector prefered a holiday on a monday, but public opinion (and a few mp's) decided that a more permanent, significant day was better.
