I am not too skilled at decyphering dreams but the one you wrote about does seem to be meaningful. Perhaps it is just you subconscious mind working through some remaining stress from earlier in the day. I hope that your vacation helps alleviate the stress. :-)

The rental house reminds me of how you consider your current home, temporary. You are hoping for a larger more permanent home. You are also afraid that adding too much to your plate will ruin your home life, but deep down you really believe your family's foundation is strong.

Tornadoes in dreams are symbolic of death I believe. Perhaps you are aware of the "death" of things in your life during this new season (death as in changes). I would say that since you had no anxiety about the storms or your family you are aware that things will be ok as long as you keep moving.
